Avoid both an undersized-underperforming off grid solar system and an oversized-overpriced solar installation. Your custom solar requirements begin with a computer modeled, Custom Designed Solar Analysis based on the appliances you plan to use.
Energy storage requirements are determined both by the appliances to be supported and by the period of autonomy (i.e., the period of time until a generator or other outside electrical supply is required). The computer model at the heart of the Custom Designed Solar software calculates the required number of battery kilowatt hours needed during an 8 hour and a 16 hour “autonomy period”.
Inverter power is a key component of a custom solar project and relates to the number of appliances you can run at the same time. If your inverter is undersized, you will need to “energy manage” which in this case means that you would need to be careful how many appliances you turn on at the same time. If any component of a solar system is undersized, it will be a bottle-neck affecting performance. Similarly, if components are oversized, you are wasting money.
